Module C

Gameplay Structure & Player Experience

How the DMI Gaming Machine behaves when a player interacts with it: modes, loop, reels, and the pipeline that turns interaction into insight.

Player Modes

Each mode influences how the WOW, AHA, and Alignment engines respond.

  • Explorer

    curiosity-driven

  • Learner

    knowledge-driven

  • Analyst

    structure-driven

  • Scientist

    model-driven

  • Creator

    design-driven

Gameplay Loop

Input → Process → Output

Input

  • tags
  • pages
  • diagonals
  • ratios
  • domain/subdomain selections

Process

  • WOW Engine (pattern shock)
  • AHA Engine (structural realisation)
  • Alignment Engine (semantic coherence)

Output

  • WOW event
  • AHA event
  • INSIGHT event (WOW + AHA + Alignment combined)

Reels & Flow

The reels are the dynamic visual and structural flow of the machine.

Flow

  • chromatic descent
  • geometric modulation
  • diagonal alignment
  • semantic clustering

Reels spin when

  • new content is added
  • new diagonals are selected
  • new domains/subdomains are chosen
  • player mode changes

Pipeline

WOW → AHA → INSIGHT

  • WOW – visual shock
  • AHA – structural realisation
  • INSIGHT – semantic alignment

The pipeline must always follow this order.

First-Time Experience

  1. Ask for motivations / intentions
  2. Establish Player Mode
  3. Spin the reels once
  4. Produce a first WOW event
  5. Attempt an AHA event
  6. Output an initial INSIGHT

Repeat Experience

  • only add alignment successes
  • maintain coherence across diagonals
  • preserve player mode unless changed
